Nov. 17, 2009

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA baseball program will host the 27th annual UCLA Baseball Golf Tournament and dinner on Monday, Nov. 23 at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine, Calif. The yearly golf tournament includes both a silent and live auction and a banquet in the evening.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet UCLA's baseball team at the evening dinner. The year's golf tournament coincides with the conclusion of the team's annual Blue-Gold World Series.

Those interested in attending the tournament or donating silent and live auction items should contact Scott Nelson in UCLA's Wooden Athletic Fund Office at (310) 206-3002 or via e-mail at snelson@athletics.ucla.edu.

The day's events include 18 holes of golf at Strawberry Farms Golf Club, tournament shirts, tee gifts, access to the driving range, a boxed lunch, the "low gross" foursome awards and "low net" foursome awards, raffle prizes, a silent auction, cocktails and a sit-down dinner and program. The day's events also include a long drive contest, closest-to-the-pin contest and hole-in-one contest.

Entry into the tournament costs $300 for an individual ($125 of which is tax-deductible) and $1,000 for a foursome ($300 of which is tax-deductible).

There are numerous opportunities for friends of the baseball program to support the tournament. For those unable to attend, such opportunities include sponsoring a tee, sponsoring a coach to play in the tournament, sponsoring a player to attend the dinner, or donating an auction item. The PDF registration form (see link below) indicates how to sponsor a tee. The baseball program encourages those unable to attend the golf tournament to join the team for dinner (5 p.m.), which costs $75 per person.

Previous items donated to the silent auction and prize drawing have included MLB autographed baseballs and bats, roundtrip airline tickets, UCLA Adidas sportswear, gift certificates to local restaurants, and UCLA memorabilia autographed by John Wooden, current coaches and former Bruins playing in Major League Baseball, the NBA and the NFL.
