Los Angeles, Calif. - UCLA pitchers Adam Plutko and David Berg have both been selected to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America Team. Plutko received first-team honors from the organization while Berg was named to the second team.

Plutko, a junior from Glendora, Calif., went 12-3 with a 2.48 ERA during his sophomore season in 2012, logging 99 strikeouts and 47 walks in 119.2 innings. He captured third-team All-America honors from Baseball America and second-team All-America acclaim from Perfect Game USA last season, in addition to being named to the All-Pac-12 Conference team for the second straight season. Plutko finished the 2012 season with a 7-0 record in his final seven starts, sporting a 0.89 ERA and a .180 opposing batting average in that span. This is the second straight year that Plutko has earned preseason All-America honors, earning third-team acclaim from Collegiate Baseball last season.

Berg, a sophomore from Covina, Calif., set the Pac-12 and UCLA record for single-season appearances with 50 in 2012. Berg was one appearance shy of the NCAA Division I all-time single-season record, which is 51, set by Florida's Connor Falkenbach in 2005. Berg also led the Pac-12 with a 1.46 ERA and .165 opposing batting average in his freshman season, going 5-3 with one save, 63 strikeouts and 17 walks in 74.0 innings. He picked up Freshman All-America honors from Baseball America, the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball last season, and was one of just two freshmen to earn All-Pac-12 honors.

Both Plutko and Berg spent the summer of 2012 pitching for the USA Collegiate National Team and were named among squad's Top 20 prospects by Baseball America (Plutko - No. 15; Berg - No. 20). Plutko logged a 2.63 ERA with 12 strikeouts and a 1.02 WHIP for the U.S. while Berg recorded two saves with a 3.72 ERA in eight games pitched for the team. Both pitchers also helped the U.S. earn a third place finish at the Honkbal-Haarlem Baseball Week in Haarlem, The Netherlands.
