2005-06 -- In what has been a lengthy procedural processs, the UCLA Athletic Dept. and the Rubin family have been dealing with the NCAA, attempting to get Rubin a sixth year of eligibility (he did not compete in 2001-02/Rubin also missed the final 19 games of last season with a left knee injury that required surgery). But as of Nov. 1, Rubin's status for 2005-06 is still undecided. During a request for a five-year clock extension, while the extension is under consideration, Rubin may practice for 30 days (starting Oct. 14). He cannot play against outside competition.
Entering 2004-05 -- Janou (Ja-now) Rubin last season earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors for his efforts in UCLA's conference opening home wins over Oregon State (career-high 13 points, all in the second half, including 3-3 from three-point range, one rebound and three assists in 18 minutes) and Oregon (a career-high tying 13 points, three rebounds, two assists, one steal and blocked shot in 24 minutes) ... Rubin is thought to be the first walk-on ever to win the honor ... In 2003-04 he appeared in a career-high 27 games, with career-high averages of 14.8 minutes, 4.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists ... 2003-04 - In 27 games, he averaged 4.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 14.8 minutes, while shooting .460 from the floor and .405 (No. 2, 14-34) from three-point range ...In Pac-10 play, Rubin averaged 5.3 points, 1.6 assists and 1.7 rebounds, while shooting .450 from the floor and .406 from three-point range in 16.3 minutes ... His highlight games included - In 18 minutes against Vermont, he had five points and two rebounds in 18 minutes ... In 18 minutes vs. UC Riverside, he had five points, three assists, one rebound and one steal ... Against Oregon State, he scored a career-high 13 points (5-9, 3-3, 0-0) - all in the second half - and added three assists and one rebound in 18 minutes ... Vs. 2002-03 -- Appeared in a career-high 10 games and averaged 2.1 points in 5.1 minutes ... Rubin's highlight games included - vs. Portland, he played seven minutes and contributed three rebounds and three assists; against Arizona in Pauley, Rubin scored a career-high nine points (3-3 on three-pointers) in a then-career-high 10 minutes; at Stanford, he hit a three-point field goal and grabbed a rebound in six minutes and at California, Rubin played a career-high 11 minutes, with three points and two rebounds.
