Darren Collison Named U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Sophomore had career highs in points and assists in weekend sweep in Arizona

Feb. 19, 2007

UCLA guard Darren Collison has been named the U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 12-18.

Collison, a sophomore from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., averaged 17.5 points and 9.0 assists last week as the Bruins completed a season sweep of the Arizona schools.

In the Bruins' 67-61 come-from-behind win at Arizona State, Collison scored a career-high 18 points. After trailing 49-43 with just over nine minutes to go, Collison took over the game, scoring 11 straight points for UCLA.

Collison followed his career scoring night with a career assist outing in the 81-66 win at Arizona. The sophomore dished out 15 assists and scored 17 points against the Wildcats, with a career-best five three-point field goals, helping UCLA win at Arizona in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1983-84.

Collison's career-high assists marked the second-best total (tied) in UCLA history behind Earl Watson, who recorded 16 during the second round of the NCAA tournament against Maryland in 2000.

For the week, Collison shot 12-of-24 from the field (.500) and was 8-of-14 from beyond the arc (.571).

This is the second weekly honor for Collison and UCLA's 45th Player of the Week all-time.
