Aug. 6, 2012
NEW YORK - The UCLA men's basketball team will host UC Irvine and James Madison on Nov. 13 and Nov. 15, respectively, in Los Angeles Regional Round matchups of the 2012 Legends Classic, as announced Monday.
Among the nation's most eagerly anticipated early-season tournaments, the sixth annual Legends Classic will culminate with its Championship Round games being played at the brand new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Nov. 19-20. Along with Georgetown, Indiana and Georgia, UCLA will host a pair of Regional Round games on their home courts prior to advancing to the Championship Rounds in Brooklyn.
UCLA's games against UC Irvine and James Madison will follow the Bruins' season-opening game against Indiana State on Friday, Nov. 9, the first game to be played in New Pauley Pavilion.
UCLA has gone 7-2 in the all-time series against UC Irvine, which returns all five starters this fall after having gone 12-20 last season (6-10 Big West). The Bruins have never faced James Madison, which returns three of its four top scorers from last year's 16-15 squad (5-13 CAA).
ESPN Networks will televise six games of the Legends Classic, including all four Championship Round games in Brooklyn. UCLA's game against Georgetown on Nov. 19 in Brooklyn will be televised on ESPN2. The consolation game and championship contest on Nov. 20 will be shown on ESPNU and ESPN, respectively.
The Nov. 11 Duquesne-Georgetown game and the Nov. 12 meeting between Youngstown State and Georgia will air on ESPNU. Complete game times and additional television coverage will be announced at a later date.
UCLA returns three starters from last season's team that finished 19-14 (11-7 Pac-12). The Bruins return juniors David and Travis Wear, Joshua Smith and Tyler Lamb and welcome the nation's top-ranked recruiting class, including McDonald's All-America selections Kyle Anderson, Shabazz Muhammad and Tony Parker.
