Josh Shipp Named Pacific-10 Player of the Week

UCLA earns first back-to-back honors since 2004

Dec. 4, 2006

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA guard/forward Josh Shipp has been named the U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for November 27-December 3, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Shipp, a sophomore from Los Angeles, Calif., averaged 17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in leading the Bruins to a pair of victories last week. He opened the week with a career-high 24 points, hitting 6-of-9 from three-point range, in the 88-58 win over Long Beach State. He also added seven rebounds and a career-best tying five assists. Shipp followed that performance by scoring 10 points in a 61-38 win over UC Riverside, who employed a slow-down offense, holding the ball near halfcourt for the first 20 seconds of every possession.

This is the first weekly honor for Shipp and UCLA's 44th Player of the Week all-time.

Darren Collison was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week a week ago, marking the first time UCLA has won back-to-back Pac-10 Player of the Week honors since Jordan Farmar (Dec. 13) and Dijon Thompson (Dec. 20) pulled it off in 2004.
