Ranked No. 1 among kickers by The Sporting News ... Selected first-team All-American by Athlon ... A multi-purpose weapon for the Bruins ... In addition to his place kicking chores, he has also been the team's punter for three seasons and hands the kickoff duties as well ... 1997 -- Sailer was selected first-team All-America place kicker by the American Football Coaches' Assn. and the Walter Camp Foundation and first-team All-America punter by the Football Writers Assn. of America ... In addition, he was named second-team All-America by Associated Press, Football News and College & Pro Football Newsweekly ... An outstanding student, he was selected Academic All-America second team by GTE/CoSIDA and first-team All-Pac-10 ... Early in the season, he made 15 consecutive field goals before his two misfires versus Cal to approach the record of 18 straight field goals in one season, set by John Lee in 1984 ... During the regular season, Sailer was third (tied) in the NCAA and first in the Pac-10 in field goals per game (1.73) and ranked 14th nationally (third among kickers) and second in the Pac-10 in scoring (9.64) ... Also ranked 19th nationally and second in the Pac-10 in punting (43.65) ... In addition, 47 of his 75 regular season kickoffs resulted in touchbacks ... Sailer's 19 field goals rank fifth on UCLA's single-season list while his 109 points rank fourth overall and second among kickers ... In the Cotton Bowl, he made all three of his PATs and averaged 39.0 yards on seven punts ... In the regular-season finale against USC, he converted one of two field goals, making one from 37 yards and missing from 32, and all four PATs for seven points ... Also had three touchbacks on his six kickoffs and averaged 46.2 yards on five punts with no returns ... Against Washington, he converted one of two field goals, hitting from 38 yards and missing from 20 yards ... Also converted seven PATs for 10 points, had four touchbacks on his nine kickoffs and averaged 51.0 yards on three punts ... On Nov. 1 at Stanford, he converted field goals of 27 and 25 yards and three extra points for nine points ... Against California, he missed twice in the fourth quarter from 42 yards, breaking his streak of 15 straight successes started in the Tennessee contest ... Four of his six kickoffs were touchbacks and he averaged 39.8 yards on four punts ... On Oct. 18 against Oregon State, he made two field goals (20 and 40 yards) to increase his streak to 15 straight ... He also converted all four PATs to give him 10 points ... In addition, four of his kickoffs went for touchbacks (a fifth was a fair-catch on a pooch kick from the 50-yard line following a penalty) ... Averaged 40.9 yards on eight punts and three forced the Beavers to begin drives at the 10-yard line or worse ... Enjoyed a spectacular afternoon at Oregon, scoring 15 points ... Converted all four of his field goal attempts to run his string of successful kicks to 13 ... His best came with 1:51 remaining when he kicked a 56-yard field goal to break Corral's record of 55, set against Oregon in 1976 ... His other kicks measured 32, 40 and 35 yards ... Also averaged 33.7 yards on three punts, made three of four PATs (the fourth hit the goal post) and put seven of nine kickoffs in the end zone (six were not returned) ... Against Houston, Sailer increased his field goal streak to nine, converting from 41 yards and made all six of his PATs (Bach Stabile kicked after the final three touchdowns) ... Averaged 49.3 yards on four punts and had just two returned for a total of eight yards while putting the Cougars at their 11-yard line twice ... Also put six of his seven kickoffs in the end zone ... In the win over Arizona, Sailer set a career high with four field goals (36, 42, 20 and 23 yards) and scored 16 points as a place kicker, averaged 42.5 yards on four kicks as a punter and put six of nine kickoffs in the end zone (two of the three returns measured just 18 and 14 yards) ... At Texas, he averaged 39.3 yards on four punts, kicked a 44-yard field goal and eight extra points and put more than half of his kickoffs in the end zone ... Against Tennessee, he made all three of his field goal attempts, connecting from 44, 27 and 23 yards and made one of two PATs ... He also averaged 40.0 yards on six punts and allowed just one kickoff return for 23 yards ... In the opener at Washington State, he averaged 50.8 yards on five kicks, the second highest of his career (54.5 versus USC in 1995) but had a sixth kick blocked while attempting to pooch the ball ... He was successful on all four PAT attempts but was wide right on a 46-yard field goal attempt ... As a punter, Sailer is averaged 43.1 yards on 59 kicks - 43.65 during the regular season (the Pac-10 leader finished at 43.78) ... He had 18 kicks of at least 50 yards and 16 that pinned opponents inside their 20-yard line ... He averaged at least 45.0 yards in five games and averaged 47.5 yards on 14 kicks in the final three games.

1996 -- On the season, he averaged 41.6 yards on his 66 punts and placed 22 inside the 20-yard line with only three touchbacks ... Ten of his punts traveled at least 50 yards ... In the opener versus Tennessee, the third-year junior averaged 41.8 yards on six kicks and pinned the Vols inside their 20-yard line twice ... On three kicks against Northeast Louisiana, he averaged 48.0 and none were returned ... Two kicks were downed inside the 20-yard line, including one at the two-yard line ... Punted nine times at Michigan and averaged 37.6 yards per kick ... At Washington, he averaged 44.6 yards on eight kicks, and twice pinned the Huskies inside the 15-yard line ... At California, Sailer nailed six balls for a 44.8 yard average and a long of 57 and against Stanford, he averaged 41.2 yards on six kicks, including three inside the Cardinal 20-yard line ... Against Washington State, he averaged 43.7 yards on seven kicks, placing four inside the 20-yard line (WSU started possessions at its own two-, eight-, nine- and 11-yard lines following Sailer punts) ... At Arizona, he averaged 43.9 yards on eight punts, placed two inside the 20-yard line and had five returned for a total of 24 yards, a net punting average of 40.9 ... Against USC, he averaged 38.5 yards on four kicks but placed two inside the 20-yard line (12- and 13-yard lines) ... Had just one returned for nine yards.

1995 -- Ranked third in the Pac-10 and 17th in the NCAA in punting with his regular-season average of 42.2 yards per kick (42.3 including the Aloha Bowl) ... Averaged a career-best 54.5 yards on two kicks against USC ... Sailer placed 19 of his kicks inside the 20-yard line, including an 81-yard kick that drove Washington State to its own four-yard line ... That was the longest punt by a Bruin in at least 26 years ... On the year, he had 12 kicks of at least 50 yards, including three of at least 60 ... He pinned California at its own one-yard line with a 66-yard kick in the third quarter and averaged 49.0 yards on four kicks ... In his last nine games, he averaged 44.2 yards on 41 kicks, including 47.7 vs. WSU, 49.0 vs. California and 54.5 vs. USC ... He had 11 kicks of at least 50 yards (three of 60+) and put 14 inside the 20-yard line in those nine games ... One of three winners of UCLA's John Boncheff Jr., Memorial Award for Rookie of the Year.
