Sal Alosi, who has both collegiate and NFL experience, was hired on Jan. 10, 2012 to be UCLA's strength and conditioning coordinator for football.
He comes to the Bruins after serving as the head strength and conditioning coach at Bryant University (Rhode Island) in 2011, where he worked with all 22 of the Bulldogs' varsity programs. Alosi's skill and knowledge in the weight room played a vital role in the development of the Bryant athletic department in its final year of transition to full Division I status.
Prior to working at Bryant, Alosi spent nine years in the NFL, where he served as the head strength and conditioning coach for both the New York Jets and the Atlanta Falcons.
A four-year letterwinner and linebacker at Hofstra University, Alosi led the Pride to back-to-back Division I-AA (now FCS) quarterfinal playoff appearances in 1999 and 2000 and topped the team in tackles as a senior.
Following his playing career, he joined the coaching staff at his alma mater, becoming an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Hofstra in 2001, when the Pride won its first Atlantic 10 Conference title in football, advancing to the Division I-AA playoffs for the third-straight year.
Alosi went on to join the NFL's New York Jets a season later and stayed there until the 2006 campaign, when he was hired by the Atlanta Falcons to direct the team's strength and conditioning program under head coach Jim Mora. After one season with the Falcons, though, Alosi returned to New York on Feb. 21, 2007 as the Jets' head strength and conditioning coach and was on the same staff as new Bruin offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone.
A native of Massapequa, N.Y., Alosi graduated from Hofstra University with a degree in exercise science.
