2000 As a redshirt sophomore, McCann appeared in the first four games of the season before being sidelined by a tear of the labrum in his throwing (left) shoulder In those four games, he completed 60 of 120 passes (.500) for 688 yards and four touchdowns and just two interceptions His efficiency rating was 105.8 He was at his best in the victory over then No. 3 Michigan He led the Bruins back from a 10-point third-quarter deficit, throwing touchdown passes of 20 yards to Brian Poli-Dixon and two yards to Ed Ieremia-Stansbury to help the Bruins to a 23-20 victory In the second half, he completed 15 of 21 passes for 160 yards and two scores, including four of five attempts on third down His three second-half touchdown drives measured 80, 80 and 85 yards On the afternoon, McCann completed 21 of 40 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns -- all career highs In the Pac-10 opener at Oregon the following week, he completed just 13 of 33 passes for 152 yards and one interception and at least four of his passes were dropped In the opener, McCann did an outstanding job against then No. 3 Alabama, coming off the bench following a shoulder injury to Cory Paus to twice rally the Bruins from behind for the victory On his first series, he put together a 9:08, 19-play drive that resulted in a game-tying touchdown The Bruins moved 80 yards for touchdowns on each of its next two possessions under his direction With just under nine minutes remaining in the third quarter, Alabama took a 24-21 lead when McCanns pass was picked off at the nine-yard line and returned 91 yards for a score Undeterred, McCann came right back and on the third play of the ensuing series, he hit Freddie Mitchell with a 46-yard touchdown strike, the first TD throw of his career, to give the Bruins the lead for good On the day, he completed 14 of 24 passes for 194 yards and one score The following week versus Fresno State, he started and played only the first half, completing 12 of 23 passes for 106 yards and one touchdown (20 yards to Freddie Mitchell).
1999 Saw action in the final four games of the season and made his first career start in the USC game Showed rapid improvement during the season after beginning the year fourth on the depth chart Made his collegiate debut against Oregon State (Oct. 21), playing the final three series of the game and completed one out of five passes for three yards Played the final series of the game against Arizona the following week and hit on three out of six passing attempts for 35 yards Entered the Washington game as the number two quarterback after Drew Bennett was moved to wide receiver and Scott McEwan dropped to third Entered the UW game in the second quarter after starter Cory Paus fractured his collarbone on the second play of the quarter Missed on his first six passes but finished strong, completing 12 of 23 attempts for 146 yards In the second half of that game, he hit 11 of 16 passes for 135 of those yards Started the USC contest and completed 17 of 29 passes for 204 yards despite being under constant pressure Threw three interceptions in the game, but none were converted into scores Scored the lone Bruin touchdown in the game on a six-yard run.
