UCLA Game Notes
*Stanford's win snaps a string of six-straight losses to UCLA in the Rose Bowl. UCLA still leads the series by a 45-33-3 count.
*Kicker Kai Forbath's miss on a 49-yard field goal attempt in the third quarter broke his streak of 40 consecutive made field goals from inside 50 yards.
*Sophomore quarterback Richard Brehaut had a career-high tying five completions and finished the game 5-for-9 for 42 yards.
*Freshman running back Malcolm Jones finished with career-highs of seven rushes and 52 yards.
*UCLA was shut out for the first time at home since Oct. 16, 1999, a 17-0 loss to California. UCLA was last shut out on Sept. 13, 2008 at BYU.
Stanford Game Notes
*It was the first win in Pasadena since 1996. It was the first back-to-back wins over the Bruins since 1991-92.
*It is the first shutout over UCLA since 1941 (33-0 at Stanford) and the first shutout at UCLA since 1934 (27-0). The team's last shutout was in 2008 versus Washington State (58-0).
*Andrew Luck ran for a career-best 63 yards, besting his previous high at USC last year of 61 yards.
*Nate Whitaker has now hit eight-straight field goals in a row dating back to last year (three this year). He has also successfully completed all 63 point after attempts (three today) in his Stanford career.
*Richard Sherman's interception in the second quarter was the third in his career and first of the young season. Michael Thomas' fumble recovery and touchdown, was his first career defensive TD.
*The Cardinal has outscored its first two opponents in the first quarter 31-7. Last year the team outscored opponents 136-74 in the first frame.
*Stanford has scored first in both games this year and 9 of 13 games in 2009, resulting in an 9-2 record.
*Stanford rushed for 213 net yards last week, employing five backs, this week with four backs had 211 yards.
*Stanford has now won the last three Pac-10 openers and is 3-1 under Harbaugh. It is the first 2-0 start since 2004 and the Cardinal are now 8-3 in August/September over the last three seasons.
*Stanford posted its first, first half shutout since game eight of 2009, against Arizona State (24-0).
*The 35-point victory is the largest over the Bruins since the 33-0 win in 1941. Stanford beat UCLA 45-7, a span of 38 points in 1928 and 82-0 in 1925.
*The 35-point road victory is the largest since 35 points at Washington State in 1991 and 37 points at WSU in 1987. It is also the first true road shutout since the 17-0 win at Oregon in 1974. The team won 38-0 at the 1996 Sun Bowl.
*Ten different players have scored touchdowns over the first two weeks of the season.
