Taylor Mazzone Promoted to Y Receivers Coach
Jan. 4, 2013
Mazzone served as a graduate assistant in Westwood for the 2012 season. He replaces Marques Tuiasosopo, who recently departed to assume Quarterbacks Coach duties at the University of Washington.
"Taylor is truly one of the finest young coaching minds in the country," Mora said. "He did a wonderful job for us as a graduate assistant last fall, and, in his new position, will continue to be a valuable asset for the UCLA football program."
Prior to coming to UCLA, Mazzone had been on the staff at Arizona State University. He joined the ASU coaching staff in February of 2010, serving as a quality control coach. In 2011, he became an offensive assistant. In 2011, the Sun Devil offense was ranked 25th in the nation and 10th in passing offense.
"I am thankful that Coach Mora has given me this wonderful opportunity," said Mazzone. "I learned a great deal from him in 2012 and look forward to being even more involved with the team for years to come."
Mazzone has also worked with college quarterbacks training for the jump to the NFL such as Tim Tebow, Christian Ponder, Robert Griffin III and Brock Osweiler, and, most recently, Matt Barkley.
He attended both the University of Mississsippi and East Carolina University, and was a member of the football team at both. He spent one season at Ole Miss (2005) and then transferred to ECU, where he played quarterback and on special teams. The Pirates played in four bowl games and captured two Conference USA championships in his tenure, while racking up 33 wins as a class.
