Bruins Have First Major Scrimmage Of Spring

UCLA held its first major scrimmage of the Spring on Saturday afternoon and both the offensive and defensive units had their moments. The offensive scored four touchdowns - three on the ground and one in the air. Freshman quarterback Brett Hundley scored on a 50-yard run, redshirt freshman running back Jordon James scored on a four-yard run up the middle and junior F-back Damien Thigpen scored on a nine-yard run on which he reserved his field and ran to the left corner. Junior quarterback Richard Brehaut and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Ricky Marvray hooked up for an 18-yard score through the air. On the afternoon, Brehaut connected on 11 of 21 passes for 146 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. Hundley completed 7 of 11 attempts for 45 yards and ran for 82 yards on 10 attempts. Marvray led all receivers with four catches for 50 yards. Redshirt freshman kicker Kip Smith converted three of four field goal attempts. Defensively, Donovan Carter returned a fumble caused by Nate Chandler for a touchdown. Jeff Dickmann made two interceptions and Courtney Viney made one. Junior quarterback Kevin Prince was cleared for more practice participation and received many reps in 7-on-7 drills prior to the scrimmage. The Bruins return to practice on Monday at 4:00 pm and will practice Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. All practices at Spaulding Field are open to the public.
