Bruins Hold 70-Plus Play Scrimmage

UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel put the team through a 70-plus play scrimmage on Spaulding Field on Sunday afternoon which placed an emphasis on working on the run game. The defense responded by shutting down the offense on its first drive of the day. Richard Brehaut led the Bruins back down the field on the second drive for a field goal. Johnathan Franklin's 25-yard dash kick started the drive. Brett Hundley then took over and completed his first three pass attempt s while guiding the team into position for a field goal attempt. Redshirt freshman running back Jordon James scored the only touchdown of the day on a three -yard run. The scoring drive featured an earlier 10-yard run by James, a 15-yard pass to Morrelll Presley and a 13-yard run by Anthony Barr. Linebacker Jordan Zumwalt had the defensive hit of the day, stopping Malcolm Jones on a short-yardage situation, and Courtney Viney picked off a Hundley pass for the only turnover of the afternoon. The Bruins return to the practice field on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
