Pac-10 Media Day Coverage

Quotes and Video of Karl Dorrell and Bruce Davis at the 2007 Pac-10 Media Day.

July 27, 2007

UCLA's Pac-10 Media Day Video

UCLA Head Coach Karl Dorrell
General Remarks: "We are very excited about this season as you know we have a lot of experience coming back. We have great expectations as our team and coaches have worked very, very hard to get ourselves in the position to factor into the Conference race. We have experience on both sides of the ball and that gives us a fighting chance."

On new offensive coordinator Jay Norvell: "Jay Norvell comes from an offensive system that I'm very familiar with. He is excited to come to UCLA and put his stamp on the program. He and I speak the same language. He's the only one who I've had in my career whose expectations are the same as my expectations. He is going to do a tremendous job. There was a question last year at media day about our new defensive coordinator, DeWayne Walker, and I told you all how he is a strong fundamentals coach, is changing the mindset of our defense, how we tackle, etc. and that is exactly what Jay will be. He is very well-organized and a strong communicator. He is demanding and will get our offense up and running."

On coach Walker and the defensive system: "We're just a lot more comfortable with the system now. We've had a year to develop in it. We've added new things and we've been working hard in the offseason to get better as football players. Coach Walker is always there for us, for our questions if we don't know. We just all want to go out there and work for one cause. We know our coaches work hard for us, so we work hard for them. We're all just more comfortable with each other."

The difference between a year ago and now: "There are two differences. One - we're comfortable with our coaching staff and two - we have 25 seniors on our roster. We know each other really well. We are more mature, we know what it takes to win games. We lost games last year and we don't want to do that this year. There is nothing in college football we haven't seen. We gelled a lot and came a lot closer, and now are ready to play for each other."
