UCLA junior defensive end Cassius Marsh has been named to the pre-season Watch List for the Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award.

Marsh saw action in 12 games last season for the Bruins. He recorded 22 tackles, including 4.0 tackles for loss and was tied for second on the squad in sacks with 2.0. Marsh tallied his first career sack in the 2011 season-opener at Houston. He made a career-best 1.5 tackles for loss against Texas. As a freshman, he played in 11 contests with four starts and was named to the Rivals.com Pac-10 All-Freshman team.

Now in its 11th season, the Hendricks Award is named in honor of college football's first three-time first-team All-American. Hendricks played collegiately at the University of Miami and then went on to play 15 seasons as a professional. He played in four Super Bowls, was selected for eight Pro Bowls and has been inducted into the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame.

On-field performance, exceptional winning attitude, leadership abilities, contributions to school and community and academic preparedness are some of the criteria used to determine the Award's winner. Members of the national media, head coaches, professional scouts and former winners are included on the voting committee. A Final Mid-Season Watch List will be issued in November. The 2012 winner will be announced on December 5. Further information can be found at www.tedhendricks.com.

Marsh joins Y receiver Joseph Fauria, punter Jeff Locke, linebacker Patrick Larimore and running back Johnathan Franklin on the list of Bruins to watch during the awards season. Fauria was previously named to the watch lists for the John Mackey and Lombardi Awards. Locke was tabbed for the Ray Guy Watch List, Larimore for the Lott Trophy and Franklin is on the preseason Maxwell Award watch list.
