UCLA HOSTS OREGON STATE
Bruins welcome Beavers Nov. 6 on Versus
Next home game Dec. 4 v. USC

GAME 9 -- UCLA (3-5, 1-4) welcomes Oregon State (4-3, 3-1) to the Rose Bowl on Sat. Nov. 6 for a Pacific-10 Conference game. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. and the game will be televised across the nation by Versus with Ron Thulin, Glenn Parker and Kelly Stouffer in the booth and Lewis Johnson on the sideline.
The UCLA ISP Radio Network and AM 570 (KLAC) will radio broadcast the contest with Chris Roberts, Matt Stevens and Wayne Cook calling the action and it will be broadcast nationally on SIRIUS XM (127 SIRIUS). In addition, ISP produces a Spanish-language broadcast of all UCLA home games which can be heard on the Bruins website at uclabruins.com with Armando Aguayo and Mario Amaya.

HONORARY CAPTAIN -- This week's Honorary Captain is former All-America tight end Marcedes Lewis. Lewis played for the Bruins from 2002-05 and became UCLA's first John Mackey Award winner in his final season when he led the team with 58 receptions for 741 yards and 10 touchdowns. For his career, Lewis made 126 catches for 1,571 and 21 touchdowns. All of those numbers are career leaders on the UCLA tight end charts. Among all Bruin receivers, Lewis ranks second in touchdowns scored and eighth in receptions. As a senior, Lewis earned First-Team All-America and All-Pac-10 honors. The Jacksonville Jaguars selected him in the 2006 NFL Draft with the 28th overall pick. In his sixth year with Jacksonville, he has made 148 career catches for 1,850 yards and 14 touchdowns for a 12.5 average per reception. Considered one of the best pure blocking tight ends in the NFL, Lewis was an alternate in the 2009 Pro Bowl.

THE SERIES WITH OREGON STATE -- UCLA owns a 39-15-4 edge in the series record with the Beavers. The Bruins have dropped the last two contests played, including a 26-19 decision a season ago at OSU. UCLA's last win in this series was a 40-14 victory in 2007 over the Beavers in Corvallis. Oregon State bested the Bruins 34-6 in the last meeting played in the Rose Bowl in 2008. Rick Neuheisel is 3-3 overall vs. Oregon State, 0-2 while at UCLA.
In last year's Bruin loss in Corvallis (game 8), a UCLA second-half rally came up short. Oregon State answered 16-straight Bruin fourth-quarter points with the decisive score in the final minute of play to come away with a 26-19 win. Bruin quarterback Kevin Prince threw for 323 yards in the contest and receiver Nelson Rosario hauled in 152 passing yards worth of receptions to lead the comeback effort from a 19-3 fourth quarter deficit. Tony Dye led Bruin tacklers with 10.
In 2008, Oregon State used 31 second-half points to break open a game which had been tied 3-3 at the break and come away with a 34-6 victory in the Rose Bowl. Two fourth quarter interceptions ruined any chances at a Bruin comeback from a 17-6 deficit at the end of the third quarter. OSU rushed for 201 yards and passed for 222 more in the contest. OSU's Jacquizz Rodgers totaled 144 rushing yards while his brother, James, hauled in 105 yards in receptions.
UCLA scored 28 points in a seven-minute stretch of the fourth quarter to earn a 40-14 win in the Bruins' last win in the series, a 2007 tilt played in Corvallis. Bruin quarterback Ben Olson threw for 220 yards in that contest and Kahlil Bell ran for 80 more.

LOOKING AHEAD -- UCLA will travel to the University of Washington on Thursday Nov. 18 to play its next game. The Bruins lead the all-time series 38-29-2. The Bruins have won the last three meetings, including last season's 24-23 game in the Rose Bowl. Washington's last win in the series came by a score of 29-19 in a 2006 contest played in Seattle. UCLA captured the last battle waged in Seattle, a 27-7 verdict in 2008.

NEW JERSEYS -- The new UCLA TECHFIT jersey from adidas made its debut at Oregon. It is a complete reconstruction of the standard uniform with multiple innovations to reduce the weight of the jersey by 30 percent. These technologies include a streamlined fit, new fabric, reduced seams and an ultra lightweight name and numbering system. In addition, the UCLA TECHFIT jersey keeps players cool with integrated ventilation zones and moisture management fabric. Reduced seams and a restriction-free, high-stretch collar design increases range of motion to support player agility and speed.

MID-WEEK GAMES -- This season, the Bruins will play three non-Saturday games - Oct. 21 at Oregon, Nov. 18 at Washington and Nov. 26 at Arizona State. Prior to this year, the last time the Bruins played a regular-season non-Saturday game was Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 at Arizona State, dropping a 34-9 decision. The Bruins also played a Monday night game that year, defeating Tennessee, 27-24 in overtime on Labor Day night (Aug. 30). Before 2008, UCLA had not played on a week night since Thurs., Sept. 30, 1993, a 52-13 victory at San Diego State. The Bruins also played at San Diego State on Thurs., Sept. 26, 1991 (won, 37-12).

WATCH LIST US -- The following Bruins were listed as players "To Watch" for the 2010 major national post-season awards: junior FS Rahim Moore -- Lott Trophy (top defensive player), Naguski Trophy (best defensive player), Bednarik Award (best defensive player) Thorpe Award (top defensive back); senior LB Akeem Ayers--Lott Trophy, Naguski Trophy, Bednarik Award, Butkus Award (best linebacker), Rotary Lombardi Award (top lineman); senior PK Kai Forbath-Groza Award (top place kicker); junior C Kai Maiava-Rimington Trophy (best center); sophomore LB Patrick Larimore-Nagurski Trophy; sophomore P Jeff Locke-Ray Guy Award (best punter).

MID-SEASON HONORS -- Junior linebacker Akeem Ayers and junior safety Rahim Moore have been named to the Phil Steele first-team mid-season All-America team. Senior long snapper Christian Yount is on the second team. Ayers has also been named a Butkus Award semifinalist and a Lott IMPACT Trophy quarterfinalist. Senior place kicker Kai Forbath is a Groza Award semifinalist.

A LOOK AT THE 2010 SCHEDULE -- Arizona was the fifth school to be ranked in the AP poll at the time of its game versus the Bruins. The last time the Bruins played as many as five ranked opponents (at the time of the game) during the regular season was in the 2003 campaign (5--24 Colorado, 1 Oklahoma, 18 Washington,12 Washington State, 2 USC); it met seven ranked opponents (25 Alabama, 21 Ohio State, 19 Oregon State, 10 Washington, 20 Stanford, 16 Washington State, 7 Oregon) during the 2001 slate.
The combined record of UCLA's 2010 opponents was 90-64 (.584) in 2009. Eight of the schools (Texas 13-1, Houston 10-4, Oregon 10-3, USC 9-4, Arizona 8-5, Oregon St. 8-5, Cal 8-5, Stanford 8-5) won at least eight games. UCLA AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS * UCLA has won seven of its last 13 home games played against AP ranked opponents with wins over Houston (2010-23rd), Tennessee (2008-18th), Oregon (2007-9th), Cal (twice, 2005-10th, 2007-10th), USC (2006-2nd) and Oklahoma (2005-21st) and losses to ASU (2007-9th), Fresno State (2008-25th), USC (2008-5th), Oregon (2009-13th), Stanford (2010-25th) and Arizona (2010-15th).
* UCLA has defeated four of its last eight Top 10-ranked opponents.

* UCLA's 34-12 win at Texas on Sept. 25 was its first road victory over a ranked team (AP) since Sept. 29, 2001 at #19 Oregon State (38-7). UCLA's last road victory over a Top10 school (AP) had been Oct. 10, 1998 at #10 Arizona (52-28).

FORBATH ON TARGET-- Redshirt senior kicker Kai Forbath had connected on 40 straight field goal attempts from a distance of inside 50 yards prior to missing earlier this season from 49 yards (wide right) against Stanford (he is now 45 of 47). After missing a 47-yard attempt in game 6 at Oregon in 2008, he made his last 12 from that range in 2008, sent all 25 kicks from that range of the 2009 season (misses from 51, 52 and 51) through the uprights and was three for three this year prior to his miss against Stanford.
He has made 51 of his last 56 overall attempts. He was 28 of 31 in 2009 and No. 1 in the nation with 2.15 field goals per game. He was second with his .903 percentage (23 or more attempts).

MOORE ON INTERCEPTIONS -- Junior free safety Rahim Moore tallied his first interception of the 2010 season against Houston and moved into a tie for fourth on the all-time school list (14). In 2009, he picked off an NCAA-leading 10 passes in 2009 (3 v. SDSU, 2 at Tennessee, 2 at Arizona, 1 vs. Washington, 1 vs. WSU, 1 vs. Temple) in 13 games. He was No. 2 on UCLA's single-season list, one shy of the school record of 11 (Carlton Gray, 1991). His 10 interceptions in `09 were the most by a player in the Football Bowl Subdivision since 2003 and he was second (tied) in the country in passes defensed (1.31).

FRANKLIN ON THE RUN -- Redshirt sophomore tailback Johnathan Franklin ranks 23rd in the NCAA and third in the Pac-10 with his average of 99.0 yards per game. He has rushed for over 100 yards five times in his career and had a streak of three straight games earlier this season (158-Houston/118 Texas/ 216 Washington State), the first time a Bruin had done it since Maurice Drew in 2004 (Illinois, Washington and San Diego State).
Franklin has totaled 792 yards in his first eight games of the 2010 season. Here are some other recent eight-game totals: 2007 Kahlil Bell-795; 2006 Chris Markey-643; 2004 Maurice Jones Drew-892; 2001 DeShaun Foster-1,109; 1997 Skip Hicks-757; 1995 Karim Abdul-Jabbar-1,212; 1994 Karim Abdul-Jabbar-802; 1991 Kevin Williams-711.

FIRST STARTS -- Five positional players made their first career starts in the 2010 season opener -- DT Justin Edison, DT David Carter, DE Damien Holmes, LB Patrick Larimore and OT Sean Sheller. In addition, DE Nate Chandler made his first start on defense. Against Houston, DE Keenan Graham became the sixth player to record his first career start this season. At Texas, WR Ricky Marvray became the seventh player to make his first start. QB Richard Brehaut became the eighth player to make his first career start vs. Washington State. At Cal, DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa became the ninth player to make the first start of his Bruin career. F-back Anthony Barr (10th player) made his first start at Oregon. WR Jerry Johnson (11th player) made his first start against Arizona.

GAMES MISSED -- Due to various reasons such as pre-season or in-season injuries, transfers from other schools, redshirts or other issues, UCLA has just 62 scholarship players available - 29 on offense, 29 on defense and four on special teams. This numbers includes injured players who are expected back from injury this season.
