Johnathan Franklin Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of Week
Dec. 5, 2012
Senior running back Johnathan Franklin (Los Angeles, CA/Dorsey HS) of the UCLA football team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Nov. 26-Dec. 2.
Franklin racked up 194 yards and ran for two touchdowns in the Pac-12 Championship Football Game against a Stanford team that was ranked No. 1 in the nation against the run entering the contest, giving up an average of just 71 yards per game. Franklin moved past Maurice Jones-Drew's school record total of 4,688 career all-purpose yards during the championship game and finished the contest with a total of 4,887. Franklin also established a new single-season rushing mark (1,700 yards) during the game, surpassing the old record held by Karim Abdul-Jabbar (1,571). It was Franklin's ninth 100-yard rushing game this season, another new school record, and gave him a total of 19 career 100-yard games, one shy of tying Gaston Green's school record total of 20.
This is Franklin's fourth UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and sixth of his career.
