Holiday Bowl Student Tickets Discounted
Dec. 6, 2012
Los Angeles - Several donors to UCLA's Wooden Athletic Fund have made additional donations to ensure that the first 650 tickets purchased by UCLA students for the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl will be discounted from their $65 face value to $25.
The donors have requested that their names remain anonymous.
"It is wonderful that several of our donors have generously come forward to ensure our students have the opportunity to attend the Holiday Bowl," said UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero. "Many of them are alumni who fondly remember attending bowl games when they were students, and want to ensure our current students can enjoy that same experience. We simply cannot thank these individuals enough for these donations. We are grateful for everything they do for UCLA Athletics."
UCLA joins a growing list of universities whose donors have made additional donations to help defray the cost of student bowl tickets, including Notre Dame, Northern Illinois and Duke.
The latest contributions come on the heels of a recent announcement that the Wooden Athletic Fund, UCLA Athletics' general fund, has set numerous fundraising records in 2012, thanks to the generosity of nearly 5,000 UCLA alumni, fans and friends. With the 2012 giving year coming to an end at the end of calendar year, the WAF has already received more than $11 million in cash contributions.
Nearly 5,000 members have donated at least $100 annually to the Wooden Athletic Fund in 2012. Additionally, more than 1,500 are new individuals or organizations, besting the goal set by the development office for the calendar year. With these totals, the WAF membership and total donations are now at the highest levels in school history. Thank you to not only the new members, but all WAF members for making this a truly historic year for us.
Donations received through the Wooden Athletic Fund go directly to support the needs of all UCLA student-athletes competing for each of the university's 24 athletic programs. The generous financial support received is absolutely vital in UCLA's ability to provide our student-athletes with the resources they need to succeed in competition, in the classroom and in the community.
"On behalf of myself, the coaching staff and our players I'd like to thank the Wooden Athletic Fund donors for the support they have provided to our program in this first year, and I look forward to working together with them to find innovative ways to grow their support in coming years," said UCLA Head Football Coach Jim Mora.
UCLA will face Baylor in the 35th edition of the Holiday Bowl, scheduled to be played on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 6:45pm (PT) at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. This will be UCLA's first appearance in the Holiday Bowl, and the Bruins (9-4, Pac-12 Conference South Division Champions) will face Big 12 team Baylor (7-5, tied for fifth in Big 12) in the first meeting on the gridiron between the two schools.
Tickets to see UCLA take on Baylor in the Holiday Bowl are already on sale. Current UCLA Football Season Ticket Holders and Wooden Athletic Fund members will receive priority when requesting Holiday Bowl tickets.
All ticket requests must be submitted by 5pm on Friday, December 7 to receive priority.
