Three Freshman Football Players Honored by The Sporting News

Three of UCLA’s first-year football players have been selected to The Sporting News Freshman All-America teams.

Outside linebacker Marcus Reese and punter Nate Fikse have been named to the Freshman All-America second team and cornerback Ricky Manning, Jr. is a third-team selection.

In 1999, Fikse ranked second in the Pacific-10 Conference with his 42.1 average. Reese, who played the lone linebacker in UCLA’s ‘dime’ package, made 37 tackles, including four behind the line of scrimmage. Manning led the Bruins with 10 tackles for loss and ranked fourth on the squad with 53 tackles.
