Bruins Begin Holiday Bowl Festivities
Dec. 23, 2012
San Diego, Calif. - The UCLA football team had a busy day on Sunday, as festivities for the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl officially got underway throughout San Diego.
The Bruins' day began with a morning practice at San Diego State University, where the team ran through a series of drills and workouts. Coach Jim Mora and several players were made available after practice for a brief media session, before the team hustled onto buses for the day's next event, a luncheon aboard the Navy's amphibious assualt ship USS Boxer. Both Holiday Bowl teams attended the luncheon, where UCLA and Baylor players had the chance to interact with a number of sailors, many of whom are about the same age as the athletes. After the luncheon, players were led on tours throughout the ship and then headed out on deck to take pictures.
Following a return to the hotel, seven players, including Coach Mora, headed off to the Rady Children's Hospital to visit patients. The team signed footballs and handed out gifts to the children, who were also visited by members of the Baylor program. The UCLA players selected to participate in the event were captains Jeff Locke, Xavier Su'a-Filo, Damien Holmes, Johnathan Franklin, David Allen and Andrew Abbott. Quarterback Brett Hundley also volunteered his time at the hospital.
UCLA has another busy day tomorrow, as another morning practice will be followed by a visit to the World Famous San Diego Zoo. The team is slated to visit Sea World on Christmas Day.
