Bruins Finish First Day at Prestige
Feb. 18, 2013
The UCLA Men's Golf team finished their first day of the The Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, CA, in a three-way tie for fourth on Monday, after the first round was suspended due to darkness. The Bruins are one under par after shooting 283 (-1) through 18 holes as a team.
The Bruins were led individually by senior Pontus Widegren and sophomore Manav Shah, as both shot a 70 (-1) on the day. The two were followed by senior Pedro Figueiredo, who went even on the day with a 71. Jay Hwang carded a 72 (+1), and Jake Knapp notched a 73 (+2) to round out the scoring.
The first round was called as the skies darkened overhead, cutting the day short for close to half the field. The day will resume Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. Among those delayed was #4 Washington, who were four strokes under par through 15 holes and ended their day in third. Ahead of them were second place #10 USC, at 279 (-5), and first place #15 TCU, at 278 (-6). The Bruins will look to break free from the logjam in fourth tomorrow, as they are currently tied with both #16 Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
Round two is Tuesday, Feb. 19th. You can follow the tournament action here.
