UCLA senior Pedro Figueiredo took top individual honors on Wednesday in La Quinta, CA, as the #2-ranked UCLA Men's Golf Team fought bravely but fell short in the final round of the The Prestige at PGA West. The Bruins finished Wednesday's third and final round in a tie for third at 856 (+4) after shooting 291 (+7) during the last day of action.

Figueiredo was untouchable during his final two days of the tournament, winning the individual crown by a full five strokes as the Portuguese native shot 67 (-4) and 67 (-4) over the second and third rounds to finish with a total of 205 (-8). Doubly impressive was Figueiredo's performance on Wednesday, as he played through an extra three holes left over from Tuesday's round while maintaining championship focus.

For the rest of the Bruins, sophomore Manav Shah followed in second for the tourney's final round, carding a 73 (+2) to finish at 219 (+6) for the contest and tied for 27th overall. Senior Pontus Widegren shot a 75 (+4), finishing with 217 (+4) for the tourney and tied for 21st individually along with Jay Hwang, who notched a 76 (+5) in the competitions final round. Rounding out the starters was Jake Knapp, who recorded a 77 (+6) to finish at 224 (+11) and tied for 51st. Also finishing in that spot was UCLA individual Anton Arboleda, who shot a 67 (-4) on the final day to make an impressive last push while second UCLA individual Jonathan Garrick carded a 73 (+2) to finish at 220 (+7) and tied for 33rd.

It was an unforgiving final round. The only team to finish under par on the day was #10 USC, who shot 278 (-6), a full sixteen strokes better than their previous days total to move into a tie for first with #4 Washington. Both teams finished at 851 (-1), with no deciding playoff or tiebreaker. Tied with UCLA in third was upstart Texas Tech, with Pac-12 foe Stanford in fifth and #16 Oklahoma State in sixth.

The Bruins are back in action next week, February 25th, at the Snowman Getaway in Goodyear, AZ.
