The No. 3 ranked UCLA men's golf team secured the top seed in the NCAA Central Regional Monday evening. The Bruins will play at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, KY, a site at which they won the regional championship in 2009. Overall, UCLA has won four regional championships, two under Coach Derek Freeman. Last season the Bruins won at The Farms on their way to earning the No.1 overall seed in the NCAA Championship. They won in 2009 at Olde Stone with a one-under par score of 863 (-1). UCLA also won regional team titles in 2003 and '04. In addition, UCLA has produced three individual regional champions, including Patrick Cantlay, who won the 2011 NCAA West Regional as a freshman. The top five teams from this regional will advance to the NCAA Men's Golf Championship, May 29-June 3 at historic Riviera Country Club. The Bruins have earned nine consecutive NCAA berths, a school record. From the Pac-12 Conference, eight teams earned regional bids. UCLA is the only Pac-12 representative in the Kentucky regional. The Club at Olde Stone will play to a par of 72 over 7,248 yards. |
