Kevin Chappell Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Bruin senior won the individual and team titles at the NCAA Championships.

June 2, 2008

Senior Kevin Chappell (Fresno, CA/Buchanan HS) of the UCLA men's golf team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week (May 27-June 1).

Chappell won the individual title and led his team to the team title at the NCAA Championships with a par on the 72nd hole. The individual title, UCLA's first-ever, was won with scores of 69-73-68-76--286 (-2). Chappell won by three strokes and was the only player in the field under par for 72 holes. The team title was the Bruins' first in 20 years. Chappell set a single-season UCLA scoring record of 71.0 and played the entire season in 20-under par (34 rounds). He won twice in 2008, raising his career total to five victories. After his Championship performance, Chappell was named the 2008 Jack Nicklaus Award as the College Player of the Year, the Arnold Palmer Award as the NCAA Championship medalist, as well as the Pac-10 Golfer of the Month and the Southern Golf Association National Amateur of the Month. He was also named a first-team All-American.

This is Chappell's second UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.

Also nominated: Kevin Craddock, M. Track & Field; Brandon Crawford, Baseball; Nicole Leach, W. Track & Field; Anjelica Selden, Softball.
