Flores Fogged Out at U.S. Amateur

UCLA junior will tee off Tuesday.

Aug. 20, 2007

A four-hour fog delay forced UCLA junior Erik Flores to wait another day for his first round at the 107th U.S. Amateur at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.

Flores' tee time was pushed back to the early evening because of slow dissipating fog, and with the usual delays of 312 golfers on two courses at the Olympic Club, he never teed off on Monday. First round play resumes at 7:30 a.m. Monday, weather permitting.

Incoming freshman Philip Francis, first reported Sunday as a member of the 312-player field, missed the application deadline for the championship and will not participate in this year's tournament. All players are required to file an application stating their intent to participate.

In other UCLA golf news, former letterman Scott Lorenz advanced to the finals of the Southern California Public Links Golf Assn. Championship Sunday before falling in 19 holes at Rancho Park. Lorenz, who returned this summer from a 20-year hiatus from competitive golf, lost to Tye Alexander, who won the title last season.
