Bruins Begin Season at Ohio State on Monday

The third-ranked UCLA men's golf team begins the 2011-12 season at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational, hosted by Ohio State on Monday in Dublin, OH. The 54-hole, two day event will be played at Muirfield Village Golf Club, which will play to a par of 72 over 7,352 yards. A dozen teams are scheduled to play, including perennial Midwest powers Oklahoma State, Texas and Arkansas. Oklahoma State is the defending champion, capturing last year's title with a score of 864 (+24) at Sciota. Illinois' Luke Guthrie won medalist honors with a score of 205 (-5). Competing for the Bruins will be senior Alex Shi Yup Kim, junior Pontus Widegren, sophomore Anton Arboleda and freshmen Matt Pinizzotto and Jay Hwang. In other UCLA golf news, sophomore Patrick Cantlay finished his competition at the Frys.com Open in San Martin, tying for 67th with a 72-hole score of 285 (+2).
