Six UCLA golfers will enjoy the opportunity of a lifetime over the next three days, playing at historic Cypress Point Golf Club in a match play tournament, Oct. 29-30.

Stanford will host the eight-team event, entitled the Stanford Classic, and four Pac-12 teams will be competing. In addition to the Cardinal, the field includes, UCLA, USC, Washington, Texas, Michigan, Duke and Georgia. UCLA meets Georgia in Monday's opening round.

Competing for UCLA will be seniors Pontus Widegren and Pedro Figueiredo, sophomores Manav Shah and Matt Pinizzotto and freshmen Lorens Chan and Jonathan Garrick.

For the Bruins, it's the first time their two seniors have competed together this season. Both Widegren and Figueiredo represented Sweden and Portugal, respectively, in September at the World Team Championship in Turkey. Since then, Widegren won the CSU San Marcos tournament with a record-tying score of 198 (-18) and Figueiredo tied for 27th at the Portugal Masters.

Garrick was also a winner this fall, capturing the Cal Poly event with a nine-under par score of 201. Chan was the runner-up at San Marcos with a 14-under par score of 202.

Cypress Point Golf Club is one of the most exclusive venues in the world. Until 1991, the course was part of the AT&T Pro-Am rotation on the PGA Tour, and in 1981 it hosted the Walker Cup.

The format of this event will feature four-ball play in the first round, followed by foursomes and finally singles matches. Each team will play three matches over two days.
