The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced today its All-Federation teams,
Player of the Year and Coaches of the Year. UCLA head coach Sigi Schmid was
named Pacific Division Coach of the Year for the third straight year, while 11
of his players, including an MPSF record six on the first team, were named to
the Pacific Division All-Federation team.
Schmid led the 1997 Bruins to their fourth MPSF Championship in just six years.
In 18 years of coaching at UCLA, he hit a milestone this season, surpassing the
300 career-victory mark. He has a current career record of 301-59-33, and UCLA
has continued its streak of 15 consecutive NCAA post-season appearances.
Schmid's Bruins will face Washington at home in the second round of the NCAA
playoffs Sunday, Nov. 30 at 2 pm on Spaulding Field.
Cal State Fullerton's Sheldon Thomas was named the MPSF Pacific Division Player
of the Year for the second straight year, while Washington's Jason Boyce earned
Mountain Division Player of the Year honors, also for the second straight year.
Stanford head coach Bobby Clark was named Mountain Division Coach of the Year.
