Los Angeles, CA - No. 15/9 UCLA defeated UC Davis, 4-0, in the Bruins' home opener on Thursday evening at Drake Stadium. Freshman Chandler Hoffman scored two goals, and senior Kyle Nakazawa and freshman Evan Raynr each added a goal.

UCLA got on the scoreboard early when Nakazawa launched a shot into the upper net after receiving a cross from sophomore Fernando Monge at 2:23. Senior David Estrada also received an assist on the play. The Bruins dominated play in the first half, holding a 7-1 advantage in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Hoffman doubled up the Bruins' lead at 59:54 when he cleaned up a loose ball in the box. Luis Serrano started the play with a pass from the right side to Estrada, who looped a ball towards the goal. Hoffman sneaked in the right corner to tap it in for his first collegiate goal. Hoffman added a second goal at 68:29 after making a nifty 360 spin move to get free and firing a shot from 10 yards out. Another freshman scored his first goal when Raynr scored from 15 yards out at 72:08.

Bruin goalkeepers Brian Perk and Brian Rowe shared the shutout. Perk made three saves in his 70 minutes of play. Rowe, who did not have to make a save in his 20 minutes of action, will assume starting goalkeeper duties next week while Perk, along with midfielder Michael Stephens, is in Egypt with the U.S. Under-20 National Team for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

UCLA improves its record to 2-1, while UC Davis drops to 2-2. The Bruins will next host Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7 pm.
