Indianapolis, Ind. - UCLA midfielders Fernando Monge and Ryan Hollingshead were each selected in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft on Thursday. Monge was selected in the first round by the Montreal Impact (No. 18 overall) while Hollingshead was drafted by FC Dallas with the first pick in the second round (No. 20 overall). The Bruins have now totaled 61 draft picks in the SuperDraft's 18-year history, which is 21 more than the second place school, Maryland. Monge played in a total of 67 matches in his UCLA career and scored nine goals and four assists for a total of 22 points. He enjoyed a breakout season in 2012, scoring a single-season best five goals, two of which were game-winners. He also notched a career-best 11 points this past season and started every single match for the Bruins. Monge earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors for the first time in his career in 2012 and finished second on the team in minutes with 1,700. In 2011, he played in all 24 matches for the Bruins, playing a key role in UCLA's run to the NCAA College Cup. Hollingshead played in 81 matches in his UCLA career, scoring 16 goals and recording 21 assists (53 points). He earned All-Pac-12 honors three times in his career (2010-12) and was named the 2012 Pac-12 Player of the Year. In addition, Hollingshead earned NSCAA All-America honors in 2012 and was named to the 2011 NCAA All-Tournament Team after leading the Bruins to the College Cup semifinals. This past season, he started all 19 of UCLA's matches this season, led the team with 22 points (7 g, 8 a) and finished the season tied with Reed Williams for the team lead in goals. Hollingshead also captained the Bruins to a 13-3-3 record and finished second in the Pac-12 to teammate Evan Raynr with eight assists on the year.
