Torre Named to U.S. U-20 National Team Roster

Chicago, Ill. - UCLA freshman defender Javan Torre has been named to the 18-man U.S. U-20 National Team roster that will travel to Puebla, Mexico to compete in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship from Feb. 18-March 3. Torre, a native of Santa Monica, Calif., played in 12 matches for the Bruins in 2012, making five starts and helping the team earn six shutouts. He made the final 18-man roster after training with the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team in Sunrise, Fla. back in December. Torre previously played for the U.S. U-20's at the 2012 Marbella Cup in Spain last fall, playing in all three matches and recording an assist. He has also seen time with the U.S. U-18 National Team, participating in the 2011 Milk Cup in Northern Ireland and helping the team to a third-place finish. The U.S. is looking to qualify for its 13th FIFA U-20 World Cup, which takes place from June 21-July 13 in Turkey later this year. The top four teams from the CONCACAF U-20 Championship advance to the U-20 World Cup. The U.S. is grouped with Costa Rica and Haiti in Group A and opens the tournament against Haiti on Feb. 18 at 3:30 p.m. PT. The match will be played at Estadio Olímpico Universitario Lobos BUAP in Puebla.
