Four Bruins Named to Capital One Academic All-District Team

Los Angeles, Calif. - Seniors Ryan Hollingshead and Evan Raynr and juniors Joe Sofia and Reed Williams were each named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, as announced by the organization today.
Hollingshead, a senior midfielder from Granite Bay, Calif., has started all 15 of UCLA's matches this season and leads the Pac-12 with eight assists thus far. He also leads the team with 16 points and is tied for first with Williams with five goals, three of which were game-winners. Off the field, Hollingshead sports a 3.48 GPA as a Psychology major and has been named to the Pac-12 All-Academic team two years in a row. This is also the second year in a row that Hollingshead has earned Capital One Academic All-District honors.
Raynr, who hails from Calabasas, Calif., has played in 13 of UCLA's 15 matches and is third on the team with 10 points (2 g, 6 a). His six assists are second only to Hollingshead on the 2012 squad and he has twice been named to the Pac-12 All-Academic team. Raynr currently owns a 3.36 GPA as a Psychology major.
Sofia, a junior defender from Dove Canyon, Calif., currently leads the Bruins with 1,397 minutes this season. He has started all 15 matches for the Bruins and set new career-highs with two goals and seven points this year, all while playing lockdown defense from the center-back position. Sofia has an outstanding 3.95 GPA as a Communications major and was a first-team Pac-12 All-Academic selection in 2011.
Williams, a junior forward from Newport Beach, Calif., is tied with Hollingshead for the team-lead in goals with five and is second to Hollingshead with 14 points this season. He has appeared in all 15 matches for the Bruins and last season was an honorable mention Pac-12 All-Academic selection. Williams sports a 3.34 GPA as a Business Economics major.
The Bruins have now landed 11 players all-time on the Capital One Academic All-District Team and an all-time best four players this year.
UCLA will begin a three-match homestand tonight at 7 pm against the Stanford Cardinal out at Drake Stadium. The match will be nationally televised live by the Pac-12 Networks.
