Fernando Monge Named Pac-12 Player of the Week

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Senior midfielder Fernando Monge has been named the Pac-12 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 28-Nov. 5, as announced by the conference today. Monge, a native of Seattle, Wash., helped lead the Bruins to two wins and a tie this week as UCLA played a grueling four matches in 10 days. He started the week off by playing strong defense and registering two shots to help UCLA defeat No. 20 Washington, 1-0. Then on Thursday against Stanford, Monge gave the Bruins a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime victory with a golden goal in the 103rd minute. In the final match of the week, Monge tallied a match-high six shots as the Bruins played to a 1-1 tie with California. This is Monge's first-career weekly honor and UCLA's fourth weekly honor of the season. UCLA leads the conference with 50 all-time Pac-12 players of the week. The Bruins will finish up their regular season on Friday, Nov. 9 when they take on San Diego State at 1:30 pm out at Drake Stadium. Also Nominated: Adam Jahn, STAN
