Five Men's Soccer Players Named to Pac-12 All-Academic Team

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Seniors Ryan Hollingshead and Evan Raynr, juniors Joe Sofia and Reed Williams, and sophomore Reed McKenna were all named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference today. Hollingshead and Sofia were named to the first team while Raynr earned second team honors. Williams and McKenna received honorable mention. Hollingshead, who was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year yesterday, has started all 18 of UCLA's matches this season and leads the team with 20 points on the year. Off the field, he sports a 3.48 GPA as a Psychology major and has now been named to the Pac-12 All-Academic team three years in a row. Earlier this season, Hollingshead earned Capital One Academic All-District honors for the second time in his career. Sofia earned first-team Pac-12 All-Academic honors for the second consecutive year after posting an outstanding GPA of 3.95 as a Communications major. Like Hollingshead, Sofia was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team earlier this month and has started every match so far for the Bruins, leading the team in minutes with 1,699. Sofia has also posted career bests of two goals and four assists this season while anchoring UCLA's defense from the center back position. For the third year in a row, Raynr earned second team honors after recording a GPA of 3.36 as a Psychology major. The senior midfielder from Calabasas, Calif. leads the Pac-12 conference with nine assists on the season and is currently third on the team with 13 points (2 g, 9 a). Raynr also was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team along with Sofia and Hollingshead. Williams earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors for the second time in his career after receiving honorable mention in 2011. The junior forward leads the Bruins with seven goals on the season and is second to Hollingshead on the team with 18 points. Williams currently has a 3.34 GPA as a Business Economics major and was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team. McKenna is making his first appearance on the Pac-12 All-Academic Team after registering a 3.05 GPA. The sophomore forward from San Diego, Calif. has played in 10 matches for the Bruins thus far. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
