Bruins Blank Anteaters, 7-0

LOS ANGELES - Playing in its final tune-up before hosting ITA Kick-Off Weekend this Saturday, the ninth-ranked UCLA men's tennis team dispatched of local rival UC Irvine, 7-0 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon.
UCLA (2-0) jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage after claiming the doubles point with wins at court Nos. 1 and 2. The Anteaters (0-1) managed to pull off an 8-6 victory at court No. 3, however the point had already been decided by that time.
The Bruins then enjoyed a fairly routine march through singles play on Tuesday, winning five of six matches in straight sets. The longest match of the day came at court No. 1, where senior Nick Meister needed a 10-point tiebreaker to dispatch of Fabian Matthews, 4-6, 6-3, (12-10).
UCLA is one of 16 host sites for the 2012 ITA Kick-Off Weekend beginning this Saturday at the LATC. The event determines which teams advance to next month's ITA National Team Indoors in Virginia. Fresno State will take on UC Irvine at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday followed by UCLA versus Alabama at Noon. The winners will meet on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
