Bruin men's tennis loses only two sets

Los Angeles - Fueled by a come-from-behind victory at No. 5 singles by UCLA's Brandon Kramer, the No. 2 ranked UCLA men's tennis team defeated No. 41 UNLV 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

Kramer, a product of Reno High School in Reno, Nev., bounced back to win the final two sets in convincing fashion 6-1, 6-0 after dropping the first set 6-7 to UNLV's Danny Erez.

UCLA freshman Jean-Noel Grinda, the No. 6 ranked player in collegiate tennis, remained perfect in dual match action as he defeated UNLV's Asaf Tishler 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 1 singles spot. At the No. 2 singles position, UCLA junior and No. 4 ranked Vince Allegre needed just two sets for a 6-3, 6-4 win over UNLV freshman Nenad Zivkovic.

Two other UCLA players managed straight set victories as Matt Breen defeated Gregor Skorin at the No. 3 singles position and Bruin freshman Chris Sands, filling in for an injured Alex Decret, managed an impressive 6-1, 6-0 victory over Brandon Fallon at No. 6 singles. UCLA junior Jason Cook needed three sets to defeat Damu Bobb 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 in the No. 4 slot.

UCLA claimed the one point awarded for doubles, while sweeping all three matches in the process. The team of Grinda/Breen defeated Skorin/Zivkovic 8-5 at the No. 1 doubles position. Kramer/Decret posted an 8-3 win over Bobb/Tishler at No. 2 doubles and Cook/Allegre defeated the team of Fallon/Erez at the No. 3 slot.

With the win, UCLA improves to 3-0 overall while UNLV falls to 0-1 in dual match action. The Bruins open up Pac-10 play next week as they host Arizona on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and Arizona State on Saturday at noon. Both matches will be played on campus at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
