Men's Tennis Cruises Past Arizona
No. 2 Bruins claim a 6-1 decision.

Los Angeles - The UCLA men's tennis team, ranked No. 2 in the nation, opened Pac-10 Conference action with a 6-1 win over the University of Arizona, ranked No. 61, at the Los Angeles Tennis Center today.
UCLA started things off right by claiming the doubles point with victories in the No. 1 and 2 positions. The deciding doubles match saw UCLA's Alex Decret and Brandon Kramer claim a 9-7 win over Arizona's duo of Jerome Oliveri and Michel Stopa in the No. 2 slot.
In singles play, UCLA won five matches in straight sets and Arizona claimed the sixth in three sets. Matt Breen and Brandon Kramer posted decisive wins for UCLA in the Nos. 3 and 5 slots to give the Bruins the early lead. Competition was tighter on courts 1, 2 and 4. Jean-Noel Grinda posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Roland Kupka on court No. 1 and Vince Allegre won 6-4, 6-4 over Jerome Oliveri at No. 2. On court No. 4, Alex Decret refused to be taken to three sets as he posted a 6-3, 7-6 win over Michael MacKay. The Bruins' only loss was at No. 6 where Pascal Salasca battled back to defeat Chris Sands 6-3, 2-6, 7-6.
This was the first dual match of the 1998 season for both teams. The Bruins' homestand continues tomorrow, Jan. 31, as No. 43 ranked Arizona State comes to LATC for a Noon match.
