No. 5 Bruins Blank Ducks, 7-0 in Pac-12 Opener

Eugene, Ore. - The No. 5 UCLA men's tennis team began the Pac-12 season off on the right foot, as the Bruins dispatched of Oregon, 7-0 at the Student Tennis Center in Eugene on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Bruins improve to 15-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play. UCLA was in control from the start, claiming the doubles point with wins at court Nos. 2 and 3. Although the Ducks (14-2; 0-2 Pac-12) were able to pull off an 8-4 upset at court No. 1, the point had already been decided by that time. The Bruins then went on to post straight-set victories at all six singles courts. Sophomore Clay Thompson picked up his third victory at the No. 1 position this year, downing Oregon's top player Alex Rovello, 6-3, 6-2. Freshman newcomer Dennis Novikov also picked up his second win in a Bruin uniform, as he downed Jeff Mullen, 6-4, 6-4 at court No. 3. Nick Meister, Marcos Giron, Adrien Puget and Dennis Mkrtchian accounted for the other four Bruin singles wins. UCLA rounds out its trip tomorrow in Seattle, as the Bruins will face Washington at 1:00 p.m. The Huskies suffered a 7-0 loss to USC on Friday.
