No. 5 Men's Tennis Downs Arizona, 6-1

Tucson, Ariz. - The No. 5 UCLA men's tennis team completed the first half of its weekend road trip in impressive fashion on Friday afternoon, downing Arizona, 6-1 in a Pac-12 showdown at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center in Tucson.
With the loss, Arizona falls to 5-13 overall and 0-3 in Pac-12 play, while UCLA improves to 17-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
Friday marked the fifth time in its last six matches that UCLA was able to sweep doubles play. Senior Nick Meister and freshman Dennis Novikov had the easiest match at court No. 1, downing Sebastian Ionescu and Giacomo Miccini, 8-1.
Singles play went nearly as smoothly for the Bruins, who won five of six matches in straight sets. The only match of the day that didn't go UCLA's way came at court No. 4, where Arizona's Sumeet Shinde edged Bruin freshman Marcos Giron, 6-1, 3-6, (10-8). UCLA, however, was up 6-0 at the time of Shinde's win.
Both sophomore Adrien Puget and freshman Dennis Mkrtchian lost just two games in their matches at court Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, as Puget was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Carlos Bermudez, while Mkrtchian downed Kieren Thompson, 6-2, 6-0
UCLA now has a day off before facing Utah on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. (MST).
