No. 5 Men's Tennis Bests Utah, 6-1

Salt Lake City - The fifth-ranked UCLA men's tennis team extended its winning streak to seven straight on Sunday, dispatching of Utah, 6-1 in an Easter Sunday showdown at the Liberty Park Tennis Center in Salt Lake City. The Bruins, who have not lost since falling to top-ranked USC in late February, improve to 18-2 overall and 4-0 in the Pac-12.
After claiming the doubles point with wins at court Nos. 1 and 2, the Bruins moved out to a 3-0 lead in the contest following wins by freshmen Dennis Mkrtchian and Marcos Giron. Mkrtchian picked up his team-leading 27th victory of the season by downing Ben Tasevac at court No. 6. Giron, who is tied for second on the team in wins with 21, was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Rafael Davidian at court No. 4.
Utah (11-9; 0-4 Pac-12) then cut the lead to 3-1 when Slim Hamza edged Dennis Novikov, 6-0, 7-6(6) at court No. 3.
However, sophomore Adrien Puget put to rest any thoughts of a Ute comeback when he dispatched of Devin Lane, 7-6(5), 6-2 at court No. 5 to give UCLA a 4-1 advantage. Both Clay Thompson and Nick Meister then capped off the match with two more Bruin wins to give UCLA a 6-1 win.
UCLA returns home next week to host one of its biggest weekends of the season, as No. 12 Cal and No. 11 Stanford visit the Los Angeles Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday.
