Thousand Oaks, Calif. - UCLA's Marcos Giron and Dennis Novikov were crowned doubles champions on Monday, as play wrapped up at the prestigious Sherwood Collegiate Cup in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Giron and Novikov, the tournament's third-seeded team, downed USC's Emilio Gomez and Eric Johnson, 8-7(4) to claim the championship. It marked the third-straight victory over a USC team for Giron and Novikov, who also beat Trojan teams in the quarterfinals and semifinals.

UCLA junior Adrien Puget didn't fare as well in the singles final, as he suffered a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 loss to top-seeded Raymond Sarmiento of USC. Puget owned a match point in the third set with Sarmiento serving at 4-5. Sarmiento was able to hold serve, winning the final three games of the match. It still marked a great tournament for Puget, who was unseeded and did not drop a set until the final.

The Bruins open up the dual-match season on Wednesday, hosting UC Santa Barbara at the Los Angeles Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m.
