Giron/Novikov Claim Title at Pacific Coast Doubles

La Jolla, Calif. - UCLA's Marcos Giron and Dennis Novikov took home the ultimate prize at the 124th Pacific Coast Doubles Championships on Sunday afternoon at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, posting a three-set victory over USC's Max De Vroome and Eric Johnson in the final.

The third-seeded Giron and Novikov played two matches on Sunday, beginning their day with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 victory over ninth-seeded Denis Lin and John Morrissey of Stanford in the semifinals. The Bruin duo returned to the court shortly thereafter for the championship match, where they beat the third-seeded De Vroome and Johnson, 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4.

Giron and Novikov won seven-straight matches during the tournament. Below are their full results:

2nd Rd. - def. Grant Adams/Francisco Stuardo (Toledo), 6-4, 6-2

Quarterfinals - def. Alex Brigham/Clay Thompson (UCLA), 6-2, 6-4
Semifinals - def. Denis Lin/John Morrissey (Stanford), 6-3, 2-6, 6-2
Final - def. Max De Vroome/Eric Johnson (USC), 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4

UCLA's Alex Brigham and Clay Thompson also turned in a solid performance in La Jolla, advancing to the quarterfinals where they were ousted by Giron and Novikov, 6-2, 6-4.
