Meister Advances in Farmers Classic Qualifying
July 22, 2012
LOS ANGELES - Recent UCLA graduate Nick Meister is just one win away from reaching the main draw of his first ATP Tour-level tournament, as he won his second qualifying match on Sunday at the 2012 Farmers Classic at UCLA's Sycamore Tennis Courts. Meister, who earned All-America honors in singles for UCLA as a redshirt senior this past season, upset eighth-seeded Rik De Voest of South Africa, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 on Sunday. He will next face Taipei's Jimmy Wang on Monday, as the qualifying moves over to UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center. Meister and Wang are scheduled to be the fourth match on the Grandstand Court. Play begins on Grandstand at 10:00 a.m. Current Bruin Clay Thompson and former UCLA player Kevin Kim didn't fare as well as Meister on Sunday. Thompson suffered a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Lithuania's fifth-seeded Ricardas Berankis, while Kim was beaten 6-3, 6-0 by Uruguay's Marcel Felder.
