LOS ANGELES - Bruin sophomore Dennis Novikov was beaten in the quarterfinals of singles on Saturday, as play continued at the 56th Annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championships at UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center.

Novikov, the tournament's No. 2 seed, suffered a 6-4, 6-2 upset to USC's Michael Grant. The loss eliminates the Bruins' chances of a singles title at the event, as Novikov was the last remaining player in the draw.

Novikov and partner Karue Sell were also fell in the quarterfinals on Saturday, suffering a 9-8(4) loss to San Diego's Romain Kalaydjian and Victor Pugliese. Novikov and Sell were the top-seeded team in the draw.

The Southern California Intercollegiate Championships mark the Bruins' final event of the fall season.
