Results

UCLA's track & field teams defeated Brigham Young and CS Northridge in both dual and triangular scoring Saturday (April 13) at Drake Stadium. Art Venegas' UCLA men's team also improved to 4-0 overall in dual competition with wins over BYU (118-63), the Cougars are tied for No. 22 this week in the U. S., and CS Northridge (123-63, Northridge lost to BYU, 86-85 in dual scoring). The Bruin men also won the triangular (UCLA 173, BYU 97, CS Northridge 94).

Bruin Men
UCLA was led by seniors, Michael Lipscomb and Scott Moser, and junior Justin Patananan. Lipscomb won the 100m (10.55) and 200m (21.15) and ran the opening leg (47.2) on UCLA's winning 4 X 400m relay (3:07.75, season-best). Moser won the hammer throw (201-1) and discus (199-6, season-best, NCAA automatic qualifier) and Patananan was victorious in the 3000m steeplechase (9:13.29) and 5000m (15:13.00).

Overall, the Bruin men had 12 individual event winners. Also winning for the Bruins, in the field ' sophomore Juaune Armon in the long jump (24-11 3/4), sophomore Tony Ortiz in the triple jump (47-8) and sophomore Dan Ames in the shot put (62-8).

Winning on the track for the Bruin men ' senior Bryan Green in the 1500m (3:51.05), sophomore Charles Ryan, who won the 110m hurdles (13.80) and ran the third leg on UCLA's winning 4 X 400m relay, and junior Kyle Erickson, who won the 400m hurdles (50.37, personal-best, NCAA provisional, No. 9 in school history) and ran the anchor leg on the victorious 4 X 400m relay.

Unattached Competition
In the men's shot put, Bruin great John Godina, the three-time World Outdoor shot put champion who won five NCAA shot put/discus titles during his Bruin career (1992-95), had a shot put mark of 69-10 3/4.

Looking Ahead
UCLA's final home meet of the season will be Saturday, May 4, hosting archrival USC in the schools' annual women's and men's dual meet.
