Men's Track & Field Team Defeats BYU And CS Northridge

UCLA's track & field teams defeated Brigham Young and CS Northridge in both dual and triangular scoring Saturday (April 13) at Drake Stadium. Art Venegas' UCLA men's team also improved to 4-0 overall in dual competition with wins over BYU (118-63), the Cougars are tied for No. 22 this week in the U. S., and CS Northridge (123-63, Northridge lost to BYU, 86-85 in dual scoring). The Bruin men also won the triangular (UCLA 173, BYU 97, CS Northridge 94).
Bruin Men Overall, the Bruin men had 12 individual event winners. Also winning for the Bruins, in the field ' sophomore Juaune Armon in the long jump (24-11 3/4), sophomore Tony Ortiz in the triple jump (47-8) and sophomore Dan Ames in the shot put (62-8). Winning on the track for the Bruin men ' senior Bryan Green in the 1500m (3:51.05), sophomore Charles Ryan, who won the 110m hurdles (13.80) and ran the third leg on UCLA's winning 4 X 400m relay, and junior Kyle Erickson, who won the 400m hurdles (50.37, personal-best, NCAA provisional, No. 9 in school history) and ran the anchor leg on the victorious 4 X 400m relay.
