Three Bruins Compete at 2008 World Junior Championships

Dencer, Knight, Krais represent United States in Bydgoszcz, Poland

BYDGOSZCZ, Poland - Rising sophomore Dylan Knight of the UCLA men's track and field team and incoming freshmen Camilla Dencer and Ryann Krais of the UCLA women's track and field team concluded competition over the weekend at the 2008 IAAF World Junior Championships (July 8-13).

Knight finished ninth in the final of the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, posting a time of 8:52.90 on Sunday, July 13. In Knight's initial heat, the rising sophomore raced to a sixth-place finish with a time of 8:53.67.

Krais finished ninth overall in the women's heptathlon with a personal-best 5,457 points. Krais recorded first-place performances in her heats in the 200-meter (25.04 seconds) and 100-meter hurdles (13.73). She finished third in each of her heats in the 800-meter (2:19.15) and high jump (1.72 meters).

Additionally, Krais finished sixth in the long jump (5.72 meters) and posted 10th-place finishes in both the javelin (31.88) and shotput (10.56).

Dencer registered a ninth-place finish in her heat and finished 30th overall in the women's 800-meter race, posting a time of 2:10.32 in the prelims on Tuesday, July 8.
