Men's Track & Field Announces Dual Meet Between the Bruins and the Ducks

Meet will be held in Eugene, OR on April 19, 2008

Sept. 26, 2007

Art Venegas and the UCLA men's track and field team will renew an old dual meet rivalry with the Oregon Ducks in 2008. The Bruins will travel to Eugene to compete in a scored dual meet with the Ducks, the first head-to-head matchup between the two schools in over two decades.

The Bruins lead the all-time series between the two schools with a record of 5-4. UCLA won the first meeting by a score of 93-61, and continued to win for three more years - 1975, 87-65; 1976, 82-72; 1977, 82.5-71.5. Oregon won four straight in 1978 (83-71), 1979 (85.5-68.5), 1983 (85-78) and 1984 (86-77). The dual meet between the two schools ended in 1985 with a Bruin win, 100-63.

"The dual meet is one of the most exciting parts of track and field," said head coach Art Venegas. "We are very excited to rekindle this meet with the Ducks and look forward to a very competitive, scored competition next April."

The meet will be held Saturday, April 19, and will be the inaugural competition on the refurbished Hayward Field. Oregon's track is currently undergoing construction to make way for the U.S. Olympic Trials, which are held in Eugene in late June to early July next summer.
