Bruins Blank Matadors in Three Sets

Senior Jeremy Casebeer led both teams with 13 kills and 15.5 points as third-ranked UCLA swept No. 9 Cal State Northridge Wednesday night in the John Wooden Center.
Set scores were 25-18, 25-15, 25-12 in 63 minutes before 403 spectators. UCLA improved to 8-1 overall, 3-0 in MPSF play, while CS Northridge fell to 2-5, 1-3. UCLA won its sixth consecutive match in three sets, a string of 18 straight sets.
The Bruins were so dominant the Matadors did not record a block. UCLA hit .435 and limited the visitors to an attack percentage of .058. The hosts recorded 13.5 blocks, nine aces (to zero for CSUN) and 22 digs to 16 for the guests.
The Bruins committed just nine hitting errors in 69 swings and no player had more than four.
In addition to Casebeer, senior Weston Dunlap and Quiroga recorded seven kills and seniors Nick Vogel and Thomas Amberg added five each. Senior Kyle Caldwell recorded 32 set assists, two kills, one ace and three block assists for 4.5 points. He also led both teams with eight digs. Libero Evan Mottram had five digs.
Julius Hoefer led the Matadors with nine kills.
The Bruins' next home match is Fri., Jan. 27 against UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m.
