Feb. 14, 1998

LOS ANGELES--The top-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team defeated UC San Diego, 3-0 Saturday night in the John Wooden Center to improve its record to 10-0 overall and 7-0 in league play. The Tritons fell to 1-7 overall and 0-6 in league play.

The Bruins won their 28th consecutive match over the Tritons, despite a brief scare in Game 2 when the second string player were unable to contain UCSD's momentum. Down 6-11, coach Al Scates began to slowly insert his starters back into the match. The first stringers responded by tying the score at 13-13 and finally winning 15-13. The Bruins won relatively easily in Games 1 and 3, 15-5 and 15-6, respectively.

Senior Tom Stillwell led the Bruins with 16 kills, eight digs and four blocks, followed by Danny Farmer's nine kills and Ben Moselle's eight.

Jon Yarris led UCSD with 12 kills, followed by Guy Mount's seven.

The Bruins will host three matches next week: Feb. 18 vs. UCSB in Pauley Pavilion; Feb. 20 vs. Cal State San Bernardino and Feb. 21 vs. Cal State Northridge both in the John Wooden Center. First serve for all the matches is 7 p.m.
