Men's Volleyball Slips Past UC Irvine 3-1

April 15, 1998

UCLA's No. 1 ranked men's volleyball team slid past UC Irvine, thanks to a fourth game pummeling, 15-12, 15-11, 12-15 and 15-4. The win improves the Bruins to 24-3, 17-2 in the MPSF.

The Bruins were led by Adam Naeve and Evan Thatcher. While Naeve's 20 kill, .300 hit performance overshadowed any of Irvine's crew, even he was outdone by Thatcher. The sophomore from Encinitas, Calif. had 25 kills, five digs and hit a stellar .425. Mark Williams and Tom Stillwell each had 14 kills, Ben Moselle had 10 digs. The fourth game had the Bruins hitting .400 with four errors, while UCI finished with a .000 hitting percentage in the final frame.

Donnie Rafter carried Irvine with 16 kills (.467) and 13 digs. Cory Weber had 13 and eight for UCI, which drops to 9-15, 5-14 in conference play.

UCLA takes the court again on Saturday, April 18th, when the MPSF Quarterfinals begin at the Wooden Center at 7:00 p.m.
